New physical science course engages students with real-world applications
ARLINGTON, Va. – Blue Ridge International Academy introduces another important addition to its online courses: Middle School Physical Science. The new course will replace Middle School Physical Science version 1.
“This new course is one of several that will soon be added to our course offerings,” said Greg Eckles, educational director for Blue Ridge International Academy.
The new edition, like all Blue Ridge courses, meets state standards. The course includes units on physics and chemistry, as well as the natural sciences that deal with non-living energy and matter. It also extends the study of inanimate matter to astronomy and geology, and broadens the student’s understanding of the states of matter by applying them to weather and atmosphere.
Each lesson includes a real-world application of the content so that students come away with an understanding of how physical science affects their lives and the world around them. Many lessons provide a Try This sidebar section with a hands-on application of content. There are also labs that illustrate key concepts through activities.
“Our goal was to teach science in a way that the students could relate,” said Janice Wilder, EdOptions’ vice president of academics and curriculum development. “We want students to not only understand the importance of each topic, but enjoy doing so. And, we’re confident that we reached our goal with this new course.”.
